Legacy of the Cook County Forest Preserves: West Suburban Connections

The Des Plaines River is a prominent feature of River Forest and surrounding communities. Speaker John Elliott, a retired forest preserve naturalist, board member of the Chicago Audubon Society, and volunteer with the Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest, will survey the geography and political ideals that created the forest preserves along the river.

Examining Segregation 50 Years After the Fair Housing Act

Dominican University, in partnership with Oak Park’s “Fair Housing at 50” Steering Committee, presents WBEZ reporter and author Natalie Moore in the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy Lecture on Tuesday, January 22. The lecture, entitled “Examining Segregation 50 Years After the Fair Housing Act,” will be held at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, 7900 W. Division Street.

Music of the World's Columbian Exposition

The Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest and the Nineteenth Century Charitable Association are cosponsoring a program of "Musical Mementos" of the 1893 Columbian Exposition on Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at 1:15 pm at the Nineteenth Century Clubhouse, 178 Forest Ave., Oak Park. Historical Society members who present their membership card will be admitted free to the program.
