Description

Join us at the museum for a presentation by author and Historical Society member David Wilson about his new book Garfield "L" to Blue Line Rapid Transit.

The Blue Line ‘L’ has operated through Chicago’s West Side and South Oak Park since 1905, but it wasn’t until the 1950s that it was placed in the “trench” next to the I-290 expressway. Garfield ‘L’ to Blue Line Rapid Transit tells the story of the 25 year drama of relocating the ‘L’ to make room for the expressway, the disruptions to the community in Chicago and in Oak Park and Forest Park, and the relocation of nearly 4,000 graves in Forest Park cemeteries to accommodate the new highway.

Yes, this event is scheduled to be held IN PERSON at OPRF Museum. Tickets for this program are $5 for Oak Park/River Forest residents, $7 for nonresidents, and free for members. Space is limited, so you must register in advance. Visit our online store to purchase tickets on our website or call the museum at 708-848-6755 to reserve your seat. All events are subject to change based on current public health guidelines.
