Description

Oak Park River Forest Museum will be hosting the first “Children’s Day on Lake Street” on Sunday, Sept. 22, along with Pilgrim Community Preschool, Pilgrim Congregational Church, and One Lake Brewing.

Local children’s entertainer Jim Gill will kick off the festivities with a lively performance from noon to 12:45 p.m. in the lower-level Fellowship Hall at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 460 Lake St. Gill has released 10 award-winning CDs of music play for young children that are favorites in family rooms, classrooms and playrooms. He has also written two children’s books.  His book, “A Soup Opera,” received an American Library Association Award in 2010.

This energetic, family-friendly performance is being sponsored by Pilgrim Community Preschool and Pilgrim Church as part of the church’s 150th anniversary this year. A $20 donation per family is suggested and a reception will follow the concert.

Candycopia is partnering by bringing its candy cart to Pilgrim from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., offering a "Play Mix" special candy combo. Ten percent of the candy cart sales will benefit Pilgrim.

Once the concert ends, families are encouraged to come to OPRF Museum where children can participate in a variety of fun building stations from 2 to 4 p.m. Children will be able to build with LEGO blocks and Lincoln Logs. There will also be a fort-making area and an opportunity to create a take-home craft with ice cream sticks. This event is free.

While you’re at the museum, look for the Minifigures in our new Hometown Legends LEGO Scavenger Hunt. Find them all and receive a prize and enter a raffle to win your choice of either a Radio Flyer wagon or scooter.

End the day at One Lake Brewing, at the corner of Lake Street and Austin Boulevard, for an early dinner and drinks while playing Family Bingo. The games start at 4 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, but spots fill up quickly.
