Fair Housing, Integration, Diversity, and Equity in Housing: What's Next?

Fifty years ago, Oak Park was in the first chapter of its reinvention as a welcoming community for people of all races.  For the past two years, the OPRF Museum Open House exhibit has put the spotlight on this important story and how it fits into the "big picture" of race relations as they have played out for the past 125 years.  But what's next when it comes to this important topic?

This Black History Month panel discussion will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 at OPRF Museum and admission is free, with donations appreciated.

Through the decades the terms have often evolved (from racial integration to racial equity, for example) but what are the issues we need to discuss in the new decade of the 2020s? Where are the challenges and opportunities?   The panel will include Athena Williams, Executive Director of the Oak Park Regional Housing Center and Michael Stewart, Marketing Director; Anne Houghtaling, Executive Director of the HOPE Fair Housing Center in Wheaton; and Deborah Wess, Broker at Coldwell Banker.  Sarah Doherty, Associate Professor at North Park University and Co-Curator of Open House will moderate the discussion.
