Every community has those stories told in hushed tones, perhaps not suited for the ears of more sensitive listeners. This year’s Tale of the Tombstones walking tour of Forest Home Cemetery features tales of the macabre, the creepy, and the scandalous. Visitors will meet Adolph Luetgert, a butcher whose wife mysteriously disappeared; Adam Heyer, gunned down in the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre; lonely hearts murderer Belle Gunness; just to name a few.
Themed Bad to the Bone, this year’s walk on Sunday Oct. 20 begins at noon at Forest Home Cemetery at 863 Desplaines in Forest Park, just south of the CTA Blue Line station and the Eisenhower Expressway.
The 2019 walking tour kicks off at 12 p.m. with the last tour leaving at 1:30 p.m. This is an hour earlier than previous tours to accommodate the cemetery’s 4 p.m. closing time. Cost is $10 for members, $15 for others. Tickets can be purchased at the gate on the day of the walk or on our website.
Each year the tour is sponsored by Drechsler, Brown and Williams Funeral Home and American Wilbert Vault Corporation.
