Join us for the 34th Annual "Tale of the Tombstones" Cemetery Walk on Sunday, October 19, where we will host a walking tour of Forest Home Cemetery and feature actors portraying a handful of the notable people laid to rest there.
This year’s theme is “American Dreams and Nightmares.” Costumed actors will tell the stories of past residents who made their fortunes in the villages and lived what many consider the “American dream.” Victims of the Eastland disaster and Iroquois Theatre fire will be among the “nightmares” portrayed.
Visitors will be led through this historic and beautiful cemetery by trained guides who will point out impressive monuments, mysterious symbols, and burial traditions that span 150 years. At intervals throughout the walk, actors will bring to life famous, obscure and infamous people who have left their mark on our community and the wider world.
Tours will depart from the cemetery's main gate in 10-minute intervals between 12 and 1:30 p.m., and the tour will last approximately 1.5 hours.
Advance registration is highly recommended, and those who have not registered in advance may be turned away. When purchasing tickets, please select an available tour time. We may contact you to adjust your chosen tour time based on availability.
Tickets are $25 or $20 for members and may be purchased in our online History Store, by calling 708-848-6755, or in the OPRF Museum gift shop during regular museum hours.
