"Tales Our Houses Tell" Spring Housewalk

Tales Our Houses Tell Housewalk POSTPONED
May 5, 2024 - 1:00:pm — 5:00:pm

Spring is here and that means it’s time for The Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest’s annual spring house walk, “Tales Our Houses Tell.” This year, five beautiful homes in southwest River Forest will be open for interior tours from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 5.

These private homes are within walking distance of each other on Gale and Keystone in this far southwest corner of River Forest.  Located between the Metra tracks and Madison Street, just east of the GAR Woods Forest Preserve, these homes were built between c. 1890 and 1910 in the popular styles of the time.

Advance ticket sales have closed. Please purchase your day-of tickets for $35 each at River Forest Community Center, 8020 Madison St., which will also be the site of ticket pick-up after 12:30 p.m. for advance sales. Advance ticket purchasers must come to the pick-up location to get their program book featuring a map with addresses, photos, and a history of each house.

There is a parking lot at the River Forest Community Center and street parking around each home. The walk is also located a few blocks south of the River Forest Metra station for those traveling on public transportation.

The event is limited to those over age 12 and pets will not be allowed in these private homes. These homes are not ADA/wheelchair accessible and public restrooms are only available at the River Forest Community Center.

All proceeds benefit the Historical Society, a not-for-profit community organization, which operates Oak Park River Forest Museum at the corner of Lake and Lombard in Oak Park, next to Stevenson Park.
