Tales of the Tombstones Cemetery Walk

Join us for The Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest's 31st Annual "Tale of the Tombstones" Cemetery Walk. 

This year's theme is Designing Community. We’ll explore some of the myriad ways that people have created a sense of community within Oak Park and River Forest, from the first European settlers who purchased land from the federal government here in the 1830s to the volatile years of change in the 1960s and ‘70s.

Tours will depart from the cemetery's main gate in 10-minute intervals between 12 and 1:30 p.m., and the tour will last approximately 1.5 hours.

Advance registration is required, and those who have not registered in advance may be turned away.

This event is subject to changes in public health guidelines and in weather. We will update information here if we need to modify the event.

Even if you cannot attend this year's walk, you can purchase a copy of the Historical Society's book, "Nature's Choicest Spot," highlighting the history and many of the famous folks laid to rest at Forest Home Cemetery.
