Women's History Walking Tour

Women's History Walk: Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment

Join us as we celebrate the 100^th anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment and honor the women who worked tirelessly for equal voting rights. Our guides will share the stories of Grace Wilbur Trout (known as “The Woman Who Never Fails”), Lillie Pitkin (the first woman elected to public office in Oak Park), Augusta Jane Chapin (educator, minister, and charter member of the American Woman Suffrage Association), and many others. We will also visit the site of the historic “Suffrage Shop”, a retail store that sold pamphlets and books about the suffrage movement, as well as all the signs, banners, sashes, and flags needed for a successful parade or rally!

The tour will depart from the plaza in front of the Oak Park Public Library at 10 a.m. sharp and will last approximately 90 minutes. Because of health concerns in our current environment, this tour will be limited to no more than 10 people and face masks will be required. Please bring your own water if needed. Private group tours may be booked by special arrangement.
