Harry G. Goelitz attended Oak Park & River Forest High School where he ran track and played football. In 1914, Goelitz, running for the Chicago Athletic Association, broke the world record in the 100 yard high hurdles, and in 1917 was the national amateur all-round champion in track. He competed in the decathlon at the 1920 Antwerp Olympic Games.
